Returning Home through Reflection
Home is where the heart is located. Our home is what provides a sense of comfort and security. Yet, home is more than this. Our real home isn’t on this earthly plane.
Our real home lies with God, Allah.
Abdul Qadr al-Jilani one of the giants of Islam and one of the poles of Islam, a Sufi Master, who lived a few hundred years after our glorious Prophet, saws, discusses in his beautiful book, The Secret of Secrets, that the key spiritual journey is for us to return to this home, the place where we were when God first created us.
Our journey takes us from this finite, difficult world to the world of light.
This journey is our spiritual walking. It is a walking down the Path of Love. One of the key components of this walking is spiritual reflection. It is not enough to read sacred books or even pray.
A person also has to deeply reflect on what he reads and what he does. More importantly he has to put into practice what he/she has read. We know that every religion speaks of God as being love. We need to be clear that this is not just a pie in the sky platitude, but a real, practical love.
The Sufi’s say that when a person repeats the word, Allah, that a real force of love enters the heart. It is a force of love that is as real as electricity. Electricity we know can light cities. The love that pores into a person’s heart with his remembrance of God lights and directs the whole world.
Constant remembrance of God can change the person’s heart, his/her body, and their soul. It is a tremendous power.
Each day it is important to look at the actions we performed that day. We have to ask ourselves, “Did I give love today? Did I live love today?”
We need to be certain that we are walking the journey.
Are you spending time each day in remembrance of God?
Real reflection can take you home.
Peace, Love, Mercy, Justice, and Freedom for All People
